Skel Fjarfestingafelag

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Skel fjárfestingafélag hf. (commonly known as Skel) is a leading Icelandic investment

company with a history dating back to 1928. The company focuses on long-term value creation

through the acquisition, development, and active management of commercial properties and

other investment assets. Skel maintains a diversified portfolio that spans business-to-business

services, consumer markets, and financial sectors. It is publicly listed on the Nasdaq Nordic

Iceland exchange.

Driven by its core values—collaboration, transparency, and accountability—Skel is

committed to sustainable and responsible growth. Its investment approach emphasizes close

engagement with portfolio companies, offering operational support and strategic guidance to

foster long-term success. Skel’s holdings include a mix of mature enterprises and emerging

ventures across multiple industries.

Looking ahead, sustainability remains central to SKEL’s strategy. The company aims to

expand its portfolio through international growth, with a particular focus on the Nordic region

and wider Europe. Domestically, SKEL continues to explore strategic mergers to strengthen its

position in key sectors. One key initiative under this strategy is SKEL’s leadership in forming a

new retail group through the planned merger of its online grocer Atlaga (formerly Heimkaup)

with Samkaup, a nationwide supermarket chain. SKEL is taking an active role in shaping the

future direction of the combined company, with plans to streamline operations, strengthen the

brand, and position the group as a competitive force in the Icelandic consumer market. The

merged entity will operate across groceries, energy, car wash services, and pharmaceuticals, with

a long-term goal of listing the group’s parent company on the regulated market in Iceland.

Another example of this strategic approach is SKEL’s role in the development of Styrkás

hf., where it has been instrumental in defining the company’s strategy and guiding its formation.

As the majority shareholder, SKEL has actively built Styrkás into a leading player in Iceland’s

business-to-business services sector, driving its expansion through targeted acquisitions in areas

such as energy, environmental services, and industrial operations. Styrkás today reflects SKEL’s

long-term vision of building a strong, diversified B2B platform with the potential for further

expansion and a future public listing.
