With roots tracing back to 1918, Sjova-Almennar Tryggingar is a leading insurance company in Iceland. Beginning as a small and local insurance company, Sjova was established in response to a growing demand for insurance in Iceland. Over the decades, Sjova has diversified and expanded its offerings, significantly growing its customer base and profitability. From its status as a state-owned entity to privatization in the 1990s, the structure of Sjova has changed throughout its history. In March of 2014, Sjova listed on the Main Market of Nasdaq Iceland, Since the listing, Sjova has grown substantially in addition to offering yearly dividends.
Today, Sjova offers an array of services including but not limited to motor vehicle insurance, family and home insurance, critical illness insurance, medical insurance, and life and health insurance. As the largest insurance company in Iceland, Sjova boasts strong customer satisfaction, profitable core operations, and an established commitment towards sustainability. Because of this, Sjova has received numerous recognitions over the years. Most recently, in 2024 Sjova was recognized for being the top insurance company in the Sustainability Axis. Sjova has also been recognized for being the top insurance company on the Icelandic satisfaction scale for the last seven years.
Regarding Sjova’s future affairs, the company looks to expand its market share and will continue to prioritize customer satisfaction, sustainability, and positive environmental practices in its internal operations and its external impact. Maintaining profitability and solvency also remain priorities of the company. As the insurance industry evolves, Sjova will continue to invest in technology, expand its product offerings, and improve efficiency within its core operations. Additionally, in 2024, a proposal for the authorization to repurchase its shares was approved by the Central Bank of Iceland.
