Siminn

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Founded in 1906, Siminn is a telecommunication company based in Iceland. Originally established as Iceland Telecom, Siminn began as a company focused on providing basic communication services to urban and rural areas in Iceland. Since its founding, Siminn has grown significantly and has substantially diversified its product offerings. On October 15, 2015, Siminn began trading on the Main Market of Nasdaq Iceland.


Today, Siminn is Iceland’s largest telecommunication company. Its operating segments include Mobile, Fixed Voice, Internet and Network, TV, IT services, Equipment sales, and Others. The majority of its revenue stems from its Internet and Network operating segment. Additionally, the company is actively working to minimize the environmental impact of its operations, particularly in its network infrastructure and data centers.


As Siminn looks to the future, the company is focused on expanding its 5G network capabilities, exploring new opportunities in AI, and introducing digital solutions in its customer services. Within these projects, sustainability remains a core part of Siminn’s business practices. Additionally, the sale of Mila, a telecommunication infrastructure company, to Ardian Infrastructure in October of 2021, allowed for a shift in Siminn’s strategy and operations, including a renewed focus on core operations, increased investment in innovation, and stronger customer relationships. Among the major investments to broaden revenue streams are advertising firms BBI, Dengsi and Billboard which complement Siminn's strategy to build an increasingly powerful service company for the Icelandic industry and Icelandic consumers, which is at the forefront of using digital technology in the delivery of its services.

SUSTAINABILITY

Síminn wants to be an active participant in society and thus support important issues as well as help others with our knowledge and services. We treat the environment and society with respect and want to be a role model in action. Síminn is a founding member of Festa, a center for sustainability. The company received equal pay certification in 2018, the first of all telecommunications companies in Iceland.


Siminn's operations are inherently non-polluting and Siminn's services help households and businesses reduce their carbon emissions, as telecommunications shorten all distances. We have achieved good results in waste sorting, have reduced the use of electricity and water, and have greatly increased all education for employees on environmental and equality issues, which will help us do even better. We have implemented an environmental management system and intend to reduce the company's footprint as much as possible. However, natural forces can have a direct impact on the company's emissions, as, for example, the security of telecommunications relies on backup power powered by fossil fuels. Gender equality has been a large part of Siminn's sustainability projects, which will hopefully increase the share of women and girls in technical jobs.
