Incorporated in 2016, Nova Klubburinn the owner of Nova hf. (“Nova”), is a full-service Icelandic telecommunications company, incorporated in 2007, based in Reykjavik, Iceland. Most known for its innovative and customer-first approach within its business strategy, Nova offers a range of mobile, Internet, TV, and retail services. With individuals, small companies, and medium corporations as its primary customer base, Nova has been recognized as the company with the highest customer satisfaction for the last sixteen years according to the Icelandic satisfaction scale for customer satisfaction (1).
In recent years, Nova has made steps towards sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint. Through emphasizing the use of renewable energy in its data networks and infrastructure as well as supporting social causes, the company remains a positive force in the Icelandic community.
As the company looks to the future, Nova’s continued commitment to innovation and sustainability remain at the center of its strategy as Nova expands its 5G networks and enhances its digital solutions, the company seeks to invest in. Additionally, Nova will continue its implementation of share repurchase plan (2).
Nova´s Sustainability and environmental policy:
This policy is intended, on the one hand, to counteract the negative effects of Nova’s
operations on society and, on the other hand, to utilize Nova’s expertise and unique position to
have a positive impact on society.
In this light, Nova looks to the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
- Good Health and Well-being
- Gender Equality
- Innovation and Infrastructure
Accordingly, Nova shall aim to:
- Promote responsible internet use through preventive measures and education
- Counteract the negative effects of internet use by offering health-promoting products and
services, and by emphasizing diversity and challenging stereotypes in marketing
materials
- Promote the mental, physical, and social well-being of employees through
encouragement and education
- Ensure universal human rights and equal status and opportunities for employees
regardless of gender, sexual orientation, origin, religion, or age
- Support cost-effective development of telecommunications infrastructure in all respects,
including through partnerships and collaboration where appropriate
- Support innovation in the field of telecommunications
- Minimize the company’s environmental footprint by reducing waste and emphasizing the
circular economy
Nova shall also refer to the ESG guidelines of Nasdaq, or other comparable standards as
applicable, when it comes to measuring the results of social responsibility initiatives and shall, as
appropriate, annually publish the information required by such standards.
The Board of Directors of Nova has adopted good corporate governance practices with the
aim of supporting responsible behaviour and a positive corporate culture within the company, to
the benefit of all stakeholders. The Board shall always strive to adhere to the requirements
outlined in recognized guidelines available at the time, in addition to the statutory provisions
governing the company’s operations. The Guidelines on Corporate Governance, 6th edition,
published by the Iceland Chamber of Commerce, the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise, and
Nasdaq OMX Iceland hf. (hereinafter referred to as the “Corporate Governance Guidelines” or
“the Guidelines”), shall specifically serve as a guiding framework with regard to good
governance.
The CEO of Nova is responsible for the company’s sustainability matters. The CEO shall
ensure that the Board is informed at least twice a year about the company’s progress on
sustainability-related projects, in accordance with the Board’s annual plan.
